Italy, thinking with your stomach

Siena ShopYou know how they say, don’t go to the supermarket hungry, otherwise you’ll end up buying a ton of food?

Well, I’ve got my own piece of advice for those of you out there researching an escorted tour – eat something before you start reading about Collette’s Italy packages.

If not (if you throw caution to the wind) you’ll find yourself booking a tour, begging the person on the other end of the line to get you to Italy as fast as possible. You’ll be thinking only with your stomach. The food sounds that good.

Yesterday, after skipping breakfast (big mistake), I sat down at my desk and went to work coming up with some brilliant copy about a new Tuscany and Umbria tour we are working on. We are talking cooking classes, handcrafted salumi, a visit to see olive oil produced,  pecorino cheeses, rare sagrantino wine. Suddenly the PB & J sandwich I had in my lunch bag didn’t sound so hot.

Here’s a quick rundown of Collette’s tours to Italy and a few culinary highlights:

  • Italian Vistas, makes a stop at a winery and farm in the heart of Tuscany to sample local wines and specialties.
  • Reflections of Italy, opens with a welcome dinner at a popular local restaurant featuring regional delicacies and Italian wines.
  • Italy’s Treasures: Art, Food & Wine of Italy, includes a Tuscan cooking lesson and an authentic Tuscan lunch, and a stop in Bologna for a tour that highlights specialty food shops.

Plus… they all include regional wines with every dinner.

Now, I am going to go get something to eat.
