Travel Tip: Give Yourself the Gift of Time
When I was looking for a travel tip for our Tuesday post I wanted something simple. I wanted a bit of wisdom that could save countless vacations. And I found it!
Leave Early
Do away with all the stress by allowing yourself plenty of time to get to the airport, check in, and get through security.
I know nothing ever turns out perfect. There are somethings we can’t control. Yet, starting out behind never helps. It runs into the rest of the trip. But once you get through the gate and are checked in, even if it’s with an hour plus to kill, you’ve done all you can do. And that’s a good feeling.
Heck, I would even recommend (especially for an escorted tour) leaving a day early. A pre-night stay in the kick off city is a great way to get into a town and relax, see a few sights and have a nice dinner.
Stay longer? A post night stay accomplishes the same thing. Some of these value-packed trips can move pretty fast. It’s nice to chill out for an extra day in that final city.
Either way, who couldn’t use an extra night in Madrid, Athens, London or Rome? Or maybe an Australia and New Zealand trip with a Fiji extension is more your style?
Whether it’s an Italian cafe, a tropical beach or even an airport lounge, enjoy that extra time. Those little moments often make a trip.
And don’t forget… If you are worried about getting to the airport check out Collette’s complimentary sedan service.

Well said. A vacation means unwinding and what better way to unwind than get to airport early to start the trip out stress free. And couldn’t agree more a pre-cruise or post-cruise night or two, be it a land cruise or sea cruise, is a nice way to leisurely mingle with locals and enjoy the culure.
I could not agree more. If you give yourself more time, you will spend more time enjoying the present and less time worrying about the future, like will I make it to the plane on time? We cheat ourselves by spending too little time on trips thinking about the experience right in front of us. If you stop and smell the roses, so to speak, you will enjoy the trip so much more. And you can’t do that if you are always rushing around.
