A break in the routine
Sometimes when business overwhelms, and you find yourself wading through far too many emails and voicemails, when even a recent family vacation finds you schlepping through airports dragging bags that are bursting at the seams (it’s the shoes, of course), and feeling like TSA and the travelers going through airport security behind you are getting a glimpse of a bit too much of you, and standing in lines too long to count to see Harry’s castle and paying dearly for that privilege, you just have to stop a minute and take stock of the crazy world we live in today.
I had the opportunity to step out of my usual routine recently, take a deep breath, and do something meaningful…in a sense, give back to the community, along with my fellow co-workers in Collette’s marketing department when we volunteered at a local Food Bank recently. Collette Vacations’ President and CEO Dan Sullivan, Jr., provides each employee with 4 paid hours per month for service opportunities and encourages everyone to use them.

In looking back, the best thing about tearing ourselves away from our cubicles is that we get to share a few laughs with the people we work with everyday; to see them in a different environment while at the same time doing some good. As our shift sorting and packing food and various sundry items came to a close, I found myself hoping that our efforts would bring a happy smile to some parent’s face knowing that their family might not go hungry tonight.
