Collette continues to roll out new Europe tours for 2012
Are you a train buff? Does the idea of two parallel ribbons of steel transporting you through the Swiss Alps sound appealing? If you answered yes, then Collette Vacations brand new itinerary added to its expanding line up of Europe tours might just be for you. The Alpine Lakes and Scenic Trains tour visits Switzerland and Italy and clients will ride aboard four of the legendary Alpine railways, including the Golden Pass Panoramic Train from Gstaad to Montreux; the Glacier Express from Zermatt to St. Moritz; the Bernina Pass Route, which takes you into Italy; and the William Tell train, which winds through the heart of the Alps. Together with a cruise of Lake Lucerne and Lake Como these rail journeys through Switzerland and Italy will provide you with unparalleled mountain vistas.

Swiss Alps
Enduring fascination with train travel
“Collette tours that include a train component continue to resonate with Collette passengers and a train ride through Switzerland is a wonderful way for clients to immerse themselves in the heart of the country’s beautiful alpine scenery,” says David Lutz, Collette product manager. “In addition to the trains, passengers will also get to experience a ride on a paddle wheeler and a traditional ferryboat.”
Cruising the lakes
The paddlewheel steamer and ferryboat are the transportation modes utilized when clients cruise Lake Lucerne and Lake Como. On board the paddle wheeler a gourmet lunch is served as passengers cruise from the South end of the Lake to the city of Lucerne, where they’ll explore the “Swiss Paradise on the Lake” during a walking tour. In Lake Como, Italy, a two night stay in a lakeside hotel is included.
Rail Highlights
Rail highlights include crossing the Alps on the William Tell Express, which travels through the Gotthard Tunnel, an engineering marvel in itself; travel along the alpine corridor from Tasch to St. Moritz aboard the Glacier Express, the world’s most famous narrow gauge railway where running commentary about the route and a bit of Swiss history is provided; and pass through countless tunnels and over bridges on the Bernina Express, a journey that ranks as the highest railway line in the Alps. Collette clients will enjoy traditional local cuisine such as cheese fondue; leisurely walks along the ancient streets of Montreux, located on the shores of Lake Geneva; and a relaxing two-night stay in a traditional Alpine inn located in the charming Swiss resort village of Zermatt, located at the base of the Matterhorn.
Alpine Lakes and Scenic Trains is 10 days and includes 13 meals with a starting at price of $2999 per person, double, land only. Departure dates begin in May 2012.
