Sublime Muse

Bio | I’ve been writing for Collette Vacations since 2003. I’ve traveled to the Canadian Rockies, New Orleans, Austria, and Germany – including Oberammergau – with Collette and extensively throughout the U.S. and Europe, Costa Rica, and the Caribbean on my own and with my family. I majored in International Relations in college and wanted to work in a foreign embassy after graduation. Instead I ended up in marketing and absolutely love the creativity of the people I work with at Collette. Also I find it somewhat fitting that I work for a travel company given my academic background. I’m an avid reader and a huge fan of history, art and architecture. This is my first time to South America. All-time favorite destination? It’s so hard to choose just one destination because each one offers something special and unique. I guess I’d have to say Italy—the art, the architecture, the food—it’s all pretty spectacular. Some people find Rome a bit overwhelming but I love the energy that pulses through it! Plus, Tuscany is a great balance to the city scene with its olive groves, fields of sunflowers, and hilltop towns where you wonder if your mini car will make the steep climb up long, winding roads. What’s on your bucket list? It’s a toss up between Japan and Israel. I have always been fascinated with non-western cultures, especially Japan’s mix of modern and centuries-old traditions. And Israel –with its ancient cities and confluence of Christianity, Judaism, and Islam – is something I find very intriguing. When I return to Italy, I would love to visit the Cinque Terre region…I guess my list could go on and on.

We hear from happy customers all the time at Collette Vacations.
In fact, every letter or email that comes in eventually makes its way to me so I read a lot of testimonials. Many of these customer letters mention the tour manager…how professional and knowledgeable he or she is about the destination and how they seem to [...]

Alaska on my mind

Last week, Alaska was in the news due to the devastating plane crash that took the life of former Senator Ted Stevens, R-Alaska, and four others including one of his former congressional aides. In reporting the story, the news outlets have also inadvertently highlighted the vast and undisturbed beauty of our 49th state. And while [...]

Travel Reviews: Who do you believe?

I just read recently that industry experts warn that TripAdvisor, the popular travel information site, has a problem with fake reviews. And while the vast majority of the reviews and opinions are authentic, unbiased and from real users, it isn’t hard to see how one might post fraudulent information.
Personally, I consider sites like TripAdvisor a valuable [...]

Just like customer ratings and reviews are all the rage online these days, ready-to-buy shoppers may see recognition awards as an influencing factor when choosing between competing travel companies.

Luckily for me in under an hour I can enjoy beautiful coastal vistas in Westerly or Warwick; Block Island or Little Compton – all beautiful Rhode Island destinations.

Have you considered travel to Antarctica?

Perhaps you read a few months back that due to the huge increases in tourism to Antarctica, new restrictions on large cruise ship visits have been implemented. Essentially what that means is that many of the large cruise ships will no longer be able to sail through Antarctic waters.Â
I spoke with Allison Flint, Collette’s product manager [...]

A Girl, a Dragon Tattoo, and travel to Sweden

I’m a little tired this morning. It happens when you make a habit of late nights and early mornings. You see, this past week I have found myself reading the novel, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, into the wee hours. I know the book has been out for awhile and that there is even [...]
